Seward, Nebraska - "Nebraska's Official Fourth of July City" - will be hosting the 135th Annual Fourth of July Celebration on Friday, July 4th, 2003. We hope you will join and help us celebrate this festive occasion!
Our town grows to over 40,000 as people come from all over the state of Nebraska, other states in the nation and other countries to help us celebrate! Our theme this year is "Sounds of Freedom"
When
Charlie Thone was Governor, he had the U. S. Congress designate Seward,
Nebraska as the 4th of July Small Town USA. Each year, Seward hosts
the state of Nebraska in an old-fashioned family celebration on July 4th.
The observance is unique in that major leadership is provided by high school
youths. This event adds new attractions each year and draws upward
of 40,000 visitors with a full day of family activities, entertainment, craft
fairs, contests and a grand parade. It has been nationally televised
on numerous occasions.
Celebrated with style since 1868, the modern Seward celebration begins
with a traditional anvil firing on the historic Seward County Courthouse Square
and continues at full speed through the huge fireworks display that lights
up the skyline after dark.
These festivities,
which blend Seward's sense of heritage and patriotism, have attracted national
attention.
Brick
streets remain a part of the Historic Courthouse Square
featured on "A Postcard from Nebraska" by Roger Welsch on CBS's
Sunday Morning.
